Maze Relay
Plan the route, count legal moves, and treat the clock as a secondary measure.
Use a playful nickname, not a real student name. Only your best completed run appears for each daily maze.

What is this game?
Maze Relay is a no-login logic and spatial reasoning game for students, families, and puzzle players. Choose an increasing daily difficulty, compare a route with your own local best, or invite two to six players into a private live race.
How to play
- 1Choose a difficulty for the daily seeded maze, then locate the start, finish, and par move count.
- 2Move with arrow keys, WASD, or large on-screen direction controls while following the maze walls.
- 3On higher difficulties, collect keys and use switches before passing through matching gates.
- 4Reach the finish, compare your moves with par and your personal-best ghost, or reveal the solution and forfeit the scored attempt.
Rules
- The daily maze is generated from a fixed versioned seed so everyone receives the same layout.
- Only legal moves through open paths count toward the move total.
- Keys, gates, and switches appear progressively on higher difficulties and are explained before play.
- Using the solution button ends the scored attempt, while practice can continue without a score.
Scoring
- Results compare the completed route with the maze's par move count.
- Fewer legal moves produce a stronger route result; elapsed time is optional and secondary.
- A personal-best ghost replays only the player's own locally stored route.
- Solution-assisted runs are clearly marked unscored and do not replace a personal best.
Tips and strategy
- Check dead ends and locked gates before committing to a long branch.
- Use landmarks such as corners, keys, and switches to remember explored areas.
- Compare the ghost route after finishing, then look for one unnecessary detour to remove.
- Move up a difficulty only when the current maze mechanics feel familiar.
Modes
- Daily Maze
- Choose a difficulty, then solve the fixed seeded route with a visible par move count and locally saved result.
- Progressive Difficulty
- Move from a clear 10×10 route to larger daily layouts with keys, gates, and switches.
- Personal-Best Ghost
- A replay of the player's own best local route for spotting detours without exposing another person's data.
- Live Race
- Two to six players solve the same server-validated maze while sharing progress—not exact routes—by private room code.
- Team Relay
- Two balanced teams share one maze route while the baton passes automatically between runners at server-generated checkpoints.
Why it is useful
Designed for students, families, puzzle players, with no login required for core play.
- Par moves make route efficiency understandable without requiring a public leaderboard.
- Progressive mechanics give players a practical way to exercise planning and spatial reasoning one layer at a time.
- A personal ghost encourages self-comparison while keeping player data local to the device.
Accessibility
Maze Relay is mobile-first and keyboard-accessible, with equivalent swipe, key, and on-screen controls plus an optional high-contrast view.
- Arrow keys, WASD, swipe gestures, and large on-screen direction controls perform the same moves.
- Current position, available directions, collected keys, switches, and gates have text equivalents.
- The maze uses labelled HTML cells and text status, rather than relying on an unlabeled canvas or color alone.
- The solution confirmation clearly announces that the scored attempt will be forfeited before revealing the route.
FAQ
What is a par move count?
Par is a clear target number of legal moves for the maze. Your result shows how close your completed route came to that target.
What does ghost replay show?
It replays your own best locally stored route as a guide. It does not expose another player's data or require an account.
What happens if I reveal the solution?
The solution button forfeits that scored attempt, clearly labels the run unscored, and still lets you study the route.
Is multiplayer available?
Yes. Live Race supports two to six no-login players, and Team Relay supports two balanced teams of two to five players each. Both use private room codes and share progress without exposing exact routes.
